- Explain the allegorical connection between Rip and America. Explain the allegorical (symbolic) link between Dame Van Winkle and England. In light of this, what might Irving be satirizing about the U. S.?
- In the end, after the narrative has found resolution, why does Irving spend so much time explaining the "historical"veracity of this story?
